Legislative advances in accessibility for the performing arts. The Royal Decree 193/2023, approved last March 21 and promoted by the Ministry of Social Rights and Agenda 2030, points out the measures to be taken by the scenic spaces. In article 23, it is established that ”publicly owned theaters shall install in their rooms magnetic induction systems and subtitling and audio-description screens so that people with sensory disabilities can access the contents of the works being exhibited. In the case of privately owned scenic spaces, the progressive incorporation of these resources will be promoted.’’ Teatro Accesible has been providing communicative accessibility measures to multiple scenic spaces throughout the national territory since 2011. With the approval of the Royal Decree we hope that this work will be valued and that the need to adopt measures to make the performing arts a fully accessible space will be promoted.
